After releasing two amazing albums, you can imagine my excitement when I heard my favorite band, The Academy Is..., was working on another. Santi, the highlight album of my life, didn't contain a single song that I didn't love with every fiber of my being. After meeting The Academy Is... in person, I was convinced that they were the most amazing people on Earth. They were so real. I talked to them about shoelaces, for the love of God. Wow, I loved The Academy Is....
Their third album, Fast Times At Barrington High, will be released August 19th. Will I be purchasing said album? Absolutely not. Why?
After building up the new album for months through a number of blog posts, videos, and interviews, I was beginning to get excited about it. when two new singles were released online, I listened to them immediately. They were less than satisfactory. Not only are they completely different than the usual TAI songs, which I would understand, but they just outright sucked. The lyrics are simple. The music is pop-y. They just feel empty. I feel empty...
But enough about me, let's talk about the band.
Last night I saw the band at Warped Tour. I figured why not since they were only going to perform the two new songs, and the rest would be their older good ones. Boy, was I dissappointed. They wore different clothes, played new instruments, had almost a completely different attitude. I guess it would have been a lot better if they didn't talk about the new album between every song. "Who's listened to our new songs," "This is what we've been trying to write for so long," "This is the best album we've written of all time." It's like they were trying to make me angry. They made it seem like ever being good was a mistake.
The old TAI will always have a place with me. But as far as I'm concerned, the new TAI are a completely different band.
